High Quality /
Low Quality
Most cameras have a "low-quality"
mode that produces 640 x 480 images. This
will give you plenty of resolution for your
site and to prepare simple flyers with
prints no larger than 4"x6". Cameras with a
"high-quality" setting take pictures that
are 1024 x 768 or 1280 x 1024 or maybe even
higher. These pictures are publication
quality because you achieve results
comparable to what you would get using a
film camera. To get the best results, either
shoot with your camera set to low to medium
quality. You will save hard drive space on
your computer, they will be easier to email
and the quality will still look great!
Photographing Interiors of Real Estate
Property
When shooting
interiors, place your camera on a tripod to
prevent camera shake. This will give you the
opportunity to shoot at slower shutter
speeds. Slower shutter speeds will allow the
ambient, or "room light" to be more
predominant in the scene, making it look
more natural. Try to take your photos when
the interior light is brighter than the
exterior light. If rooms are dark, brighten
them up by opening the window coverings to
allow as much available light in as
possible. Make sure to use your flash to
fill in those shadows. If your camera has
manual flash settings try to turn down the
flash so that it is more subdued and it
"fills" the shadows instead of overpowering
the exposure.
Lighting
Turn on all the lights in the
room!! - if there is a lamp, it would be
nice to see how its light affects the room.
Highlight positive areas of a property by
lighting them or showcasing them as the main
focal point of the photo.
Try to De-Clutter
A de-cluttered
home looks spacious and airy. Eliminating
personal belongings and as much furniture as
possible will open up the room and help the
viewer imagine their own belongings in the
space. Some people just can't visualize when
a room is jammed with furniture, books,
shelves, plants, and pictures. Keep
backgrounds and walls as simple as possible.
Eliminate distracting elements and clutter
and replace it with a point of interest like
a plant, or a fruit bowl. These elements
will add depth, dimension and point of
reference when taking photos of interiors.
